The Body Reimagined: Artist Talk by Alexandra Garrido

As a mentor in the current Mujer Artista project cycle, Alexandra will give a talk about her art practice rooted in dance and performance.

In this talk, she will discuss navigating times of transition, re-thinking/re-imagining where value and worth reside as a dance artist, person and mother. She will talk about creating work while riding imposter syndrome, flipping the narrative and reclaiming space for her creative voice.

Alexandra Garrido is a Winnipeg dance artist and international performer and choreographer

Alexandra is interested in the embodiment of human experience / connection, grounded in exploration, improvisation and in alignment with cross disciplinary collaboration. She is affiliated with artists and organizations such as: Begonia, Camila Schujman, Carol Ann Bohrn, Heavy Bell, Joel Mierau, The Mariachi Ghost, Michelle Wilson, Mujer Artista, NAfro Dance Productions, Nova Dance Collective, Prairie Theatre Exchange, Sam Penner, Sawdon Dance, Winnipeg Contemporary Dancers and Zorya Arrow.

Their early interest and experience in dance began with Mexican and Spanish Folkloric Dance and Flamenco. She is a graduate of the School of Contemporary Dancers and is a University of Winnipeg Theatre Alumnus.
